Today's Key West Citizen newspaper's top headline was:
Waterfront sale bothers watchdog
Activist Tom Milone believes sales contract should require preserving historic use
The article, written by Citizen reporter Mandy Bolen, reports on the recent vote by the Board of Keys Energy (the Key West electric utility) to sell a parcel of land on Stock Island. For a good while, that parcel has hosted dockage for some of the rapidly shrinking Keys shrimper fleet, under a lease to BAMA Sea Food.
The Keys Energy board voted to sell the parcel to the operator of the docks and icehouse, Fishbusterz Fisheries.
Tom is quoted with regard to a private (not as a representative of Last Stand) appearance he had made before the utility board in March
“I told them I’m against the sale of such waterfront properties, but said [if it is approved] they should put something in the contract to ensure the property remains working waterfront.”
